What you keep at 1 MB

A 1 MB ceiling is generous. Photos usually reach it with a quality reduction alone, so the original width and height are preserved and the result is visually identical to the file you started with for everyday purposes. This is the right target when a form allows it, or when you are emailing a scan and only need it to stop being oversized.
